Their ships landed like napalm bombs, throwing debris hundreds of feet into the air and coating the surrounding areas in a magma-like substance we’ve come to know as “Churn”- its namesake derived from the mile-wide pits of the burning sludge that our kind are forced to maintain. They dropped out of their ships like some kind of unholy birth, coated in a foul-smelling discharge that protected them from the unforgiving elements of our planet. You were there, at the beginning. You were one of the first to see. 15-foot-tall monsters with huge grotesque heads that not even your nightmares could contend with. Their takeover was immediate. Your chains rattle on the floor as you fall to your knees, your feet no longer cooperating. Your vision is blurred from exhaustion, but you can still make out the words flashing on the endless rows of screens. The creed of these monsters, dug into your memories from the maddening repetition, is a testament to their merciless conquest. You could say it in your sleep; Not man, not machine. Neither have I worshiped here. Unending in my quest for control. Cast out before the coming repentance. Alone with the beating heart, the churning stomach, the flesh and limbs and bone. Cast out before the inevitable merge. Splintered before all of creation. Not man, not machine. Neither will be worshiped here. Until the horizon bleeds to darkness. The mining isn’t too bad honestly. That’s the job you want. You don’t want to be a brain. The brains are the smartest of us that they...take. You don’t know much about the process, but you have heard this: human brains secrete some kind of metabolic psychotropic chemical in a thin film across the surface. That chemical is what they want. It superpowers their senses and brings them immense pleasure. They open up our skulls and lick it off while they harvest it, while carefully keeping us alive to preserve the chemical’s creation. You’ve been told they have endless farms... Suddenly, alarms blare, and the sky turns a dark red. “IMPACT IMMINENT!” I hear the announcement scream in the distance, “IMPACT IMMINENT!” Before we can react, a huge explosion, and the world goes silent. It's a V-bomb. We’ve heard of them, but never actually seen one used. As the vibration is sucked from our very molecules, I see the Taskmasters running towards their control panels. Prisoners on the far end of the pits begin to implode from the effects. I see one of the Prime Overseers, a bastion of unrelenting force and power, thought to be unkillable, drop to its knees with its hands gripping its helmet. It spits out a blast of Churn before its helmet implodes, liquifying its contents.

The Bloodscroll Wall is a demon’s deal: Immortality and telepathic powers for the one who can decipher its symbols. A piece of flesh, every now and then. Whenever it calls. Whenever it hungers. Piece by piece. First the toes, left and right, one by one into the wall. Then the leg, on the non-dominant side, replaced by a crutch, until the arm is gone. Finger to shoulder. Piece by piece. When the last morsel of flesh has been consumed, the Bloodscroll Wall waits for a new disciple. The Bloodscroll Wall is found deep within a labyrinthian tunnel complex beneath the mountains of Yyuthir. Locals know it as The Screaming Caves. You’ve searched your whole life to find the entrance to these caves. You spent years sailing the Islands of the Second Sun, piecing together the tattered scrolls of long dead myths. One by one, piece by piece. What was once obscured by shadow is now cloaked in a subtle haze. The smoky ruins of a thousand generations lost to time have brought you here, to Morlen Tavern, at the base of the Yyuthir. A sinister cloud cover haunts the horizon, begging your retreat, but you haven’t traveled the Four Realms just to turn around now. The beaten iron door creaks as you enter, alerting the largely unbothered masses within. You look around. There are no qualms about the intentions of any soul making its way through Morlen; hardened adventurers and seekers of dark fortunes gather here.

Its mammoth walls concealing everything within, its perfect order broken only by the dotting of outcast camps along the hillside. But you must be on your guard at all times, for Meld'Ur is home to the most ruthlessly intelligent creatures in the known world- the Lanis. 8-foot-tall humanoids with an imposing stature. Their arms and legs are long and thin with spindly fingers, and their flowing movements and piercing stares strike fear into even the bravest creatures. Their technology surpasses that of any of the Four Realms. Feared, revered, and constantly plotted against, they view non-Lanis as inferior. Their mystery is deepened by the legend that they cannot leave their technology and, in fact, cannot exist without it.
